Weekend Getaways

Weekend getaways are my favorite.. Which is actually the reason why I haven’t blogged in a few days. My boyfriend and I decided to take a spontaneous trip to Lake Winola, Pennsylvania. Our friend has a log cabin house perched on a hill, right on a lake. The house was beautiful and the property was vast with beautiful foliage and a swimmable pond.. But, I was without Wifi.

I’m the type of girl who will forego the standard weekend routine and scenery in my hometown, to go on a road trip somewhere, anywhere. I’ll be the first to say let’s just get up and go! Come to think of it, this is our fifth little getaway this summer.

We’re regulars in Lake George, New York. We head up there at least three times every summer. It’s one of my favorite places in the world. Something about being at the lake is just so relaxing. It takes about 4 hours to get there but once we’re there, we never want to leave. The lake is ginormous, seemingly endless. We usually bring up our boat or our jet skiis, a tube and a wakeboard, and reek havoc on the lake until sundown. We’re both really into our “toys.” If you don’t have a boat or jet skiis, you can rent them! If you’re not a water person, there’s plenty else to do. The lake offers parasailing, a public beach, and even dining/sightseeing cruises on big, old-school boats, such as the Minnie-Ha-Ha. You’re not a regular in Lake George if you don’t know what the Minnie-Ha-Ha is. They also have a cute little town, full of shops, eateries, and activities, that appeals to tourists. The town even has a wax museum, putt-putt, and a haunted house! Also, if you’re lucky enough to be visiting Lake George on a Thursday evening, you’ll catch an amazing fireworks display.

While we’re regulars in Lake George, we were first timers at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut and let’s just say, we cannot wait to go back! Mohegan Sun is a destination with some of the northeast’s finest dining, hotel accommodations, entertainment, and retail shopping that is jam-packed with excitement.. and slot machines! Mohegan Sun houses three world-class casinos. My boyfriend likes to gamble, just for fun.. Not in a crazy, addicting way. I just like to pretend I’m gambling and drink for free. For those of you who may not know, you can drink for free in most casinos if you’re actively gambling. Anyways, we gambled for a little and then decided to eat at one of the restaurants that our taxi cab driver recommended: Todd English’s Tuscany, an Italian restaurant. It was by far the best meal that my boyfriend and I have ever had. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. We each ordered steaks, a Top Sirloin and a Filet Minion, and split generous sides of mashed potatoes and truffle mac and cheese (my absolute favorite). I recommend getting the crumbled blue cheese atop the steak, you’ll thank me. After we stuffed our faces, we decided to check out the nightclub, Avalon. The club was upscale and everyone was dressed up, as were we. I love nightclubs… You can always find me on the dance floor, drink in hand, vibing to the music. Even my boyfriend, James, has some moves. The DJ that night was awesome.. We danced the night away. My only complaint: the drink prices were way too expensive.

All this talk about weekend getaways has me looking forward to the next! Do any of you like to escape to somewhere new over the weekend? Any destination suggestions?

Tips & Tricks:

  • You can drink for free in most casinos if you’re actively gambling.
  • If you drink to get drunk, drink as much as you can before heading into the venue. The drink prices will likely be sky-high.

xo, Carly
